Jun 26, 2010 - THERE ARE NO WELFARE PROGRAMS FOR ADULTS WITHOUT CHILDREN, and how the fuck would you know every detail about this person's life? How Christian it is to lie. Welfare checks pay below the poverty line, and over 100 studies have shown that people who receive welfare checks do NOT find it an incentive to avoid work. Furthermore, most people who are on welfare leave within the first two years. Are we done here? Or are you not finished lying? Should I humiliate you with more facts?
swiiila Says:
Jun 26, 2010 - @SgtSanchez I know him well. No children. His check has always been a disincentive to work and even to marry. If he tries to work, he could lose the security of his check and all the other free things he enjoys from taxpayers. I have had people on welfare advise me to get a disability check. They don't understand why I won't. If one cannot hold a paying job, at least they can do volunteer work or be a helper to someone who does pay taxes. Knowing that you contribute is good for the soul.
swiiila Says:
Jun 26, 2010 - Paul says: " I have not coveted anyone’s silver or gold or clothing. You yourselves know that these hands of mine have supplied my own needs and the needs of my companions. In everything I did, I showed you that by this kind of hard work we must help the weak, remembering the words the Lord Jesus himself said: ‘It is more blessed to give than to receive.’ ” If you receive a check from the taxpayers then find a way to pay back your countrymen and women who are working hard to support you.
SgtSanchez Says:
Jun 26, 2010 - How could you just flat-out lie like that? Does Jesus say nothing about liars? Even if your friend DID somehow make 600 dollars a month (which is TWICE the norm) on welfare, and get free rent (there are no programs that give free rent! The absurdity of this lie is insane!), it's just ONE anecdotal example. Over 100 studies - ONE HUNDRED STUDIES - have shown welfare does NOT give people incentive to avoid work. You should have done research before you lied. Seriously.
titabo47 Says:
Jun 26, 2010 - @SgtSanchez that is easy to say but what is with people that are sick or handicapedshoud this people be without welfare?
SgtSanchez Says:
Jun 26, 2010 - I'm not sure what you're asking. Of course the handicapped and sick deserve welfare.
jubitoftw Says:
Jun 26, 2010 - @smellincoffee and don't delude yourself that if you live in america you live in a free and democratic society.
TranshumanCyborg Says:
Jun 28, 2010 - @glugluinuit "Real socialism" isn't abstract. It actually existed on small scales in the past, as well as today. Google workplace democracy and Paris Commune. That's really socialism. Its actually totalitarianism and lack of democracy that kills people, not communism or socialism. If you concentrate power in the hands of a few people and take away free elections, it doesn't matter if they call their selves democratic, socialist republics or theocratic monarchies. The results the same.
TranshumanCyborg Says:
Jun 28, 2010 - @TranshumanCyborg Socialism isn't even necessarily a form of government. its a form of economic organization in which workers collectively own the means of production. This can be done by forming workers cooperatives. Also, look up the Mondragon Corporation. Its a company in Spain, in which over 20,000 of its employees have collectively self managed and run it since 1953. If it was run through a capitalist model, there's no doubt it would have been outsourced to China by now.
swiiila Says:
Jun 28, 2010 - @SgtSanchez I am not lying. Welfare hurts the very people it purports to help. It keeps them at a low level of income and keeps them from maximizing their talents. If, as you say, a person gets $300.00 a month, even a minimum wage job would net them more income, plus the self-esteem that comes with earning it. Long term welfare should be saved for the truly disabled and low-income elderly. I know people who are blind, cerebral palsied and mentally delayed that work.
swiiila Says:
Jun 28, 2010 - @titabo47 Titabo, I am disabled and I know a blind woman who teaches, a cerebral palsied man who works for the government and a mentally delayed man who works at a workshop for the disabled. It is better for disabled people to work if at all possible. There will be some people so sick, disabled or elderly they can't work. Welfare should be reserved for these. We are simply running out of money to carry everyone who wants to claim disability. Some disability is self-induced like addictions.
SgtSanchez Says:
Jun 28, 2010 - You're arguing against yourself. Welfare does NOT make people lazy - because, as you even ADMIT, it does not even pay above the minimum wage, therefore, it is NECESSARY that people WORK. That being said, welfare is not some 'evil institution' that is un-Xtian. Depending on welfare for a few months or years > depending on charity for a lifetime.

Jun 28, 2010 - @smellincoffee ....your kidding, right? true, there are differences, but its the same outcome: total government control. its a good thing that humanity experienced this idea. it is a interesting idea; it provokes thought. it is necessary to understand and be knowledgeable about. but communism is a death machine, for lack of a better word. its like the atom bomb; we couldnt avoid not coming up with the idea as we progress in science, but the world goes to hell if its used.
swiiila Says:
Jun 29, 2010 - @SgtSanchez The person I have been speaking of his been on welfare for 35 years. It may be necessary that he works, but he never has, choosing instead to get by on the welfare. But since he has few bills because of the free rent, medical, food etc. he has been able to survive off the taxpayers. Still, if he had learned to work, he would be living better because he is a person of considerable talents, intelligence and abilities. Welfare has kept him back and harmed his self-esteem.
SgtSanchez Says:
Jun 29, 2010 - Look, we've already established that the guy you're talking about is imaginary. No programs offer free rent, and, unless he is handicapped, no programs offer free medical. No programs give 600/month, and no programs are set up for single men without children. The more you bring him up, the more embarrassed I am for you. When you get caught red handed, you don't dip your hands in green paint - you ADMIT what you've done.

Jun 30, 2010 - @SgtSanchez hahahahahah
swiiila Says:
Jun 30, 2010 - @SgtSanchez SgtSanchez, I am telling you the absolute truth. Maybe in some areas of the country programs are more generous than in others. I am in the Southern U.S.. Where I live, a person who owns a house and lets it deteriorate can get a new house built for them if their house is in bad enough shape. If it's only moderately bad, they can get tens of thousands in repairs and rehab work on their house. They get an extremely low interest loan or get it free if they qualify.

swiiila Says:
Jun 26, 2010 - @wildhias Tax cuts affect everyone. If the U.S. tax cuts expire and my taxes go up by the thousands, it will hurt my family a great deal. We are not rich. Jesus and the disciples worked. They taught, healed, counseled, and wrote. They were supported by their followers. Jesus said render unto Caesar but he never said Ceasar should take 70% of the people's earnings and spend it wildly. Individual charity blesses the giver and It keeps control in the hands of the individual doing the giving.
