Sadly appcrashs are daily routine as well as incompatibilities between several smartphones and their software.In 2 Years i think Android might be much more of a serous enemy to an iPhone. Right now it lacks good apps, some UI things that need to be worked out and performance issues (which should get fixed with Froyo).I've had the Desire for 10 Weeks now and still i'd choose the iPhone 4 over it.
